Herconomy Emerald Grant

According to the report shared by ActionAid in 2021, globally a total of 81,000 women and girls were killed, around 47,000 of them (58%) died at the hands of an intimate partner or a family member. This is an average of one death every 11 minutes.

It is crucial to bear in mind that violence is often not reported, leading to an incomplete understanding of the actual extent of the issue. Studies reveal that nearly 50% of women who have encountered violence have chosen not to disclose it to anyone.

Financial barriers can indeed contribute to women’s reluctance to speak up or take action against domestic violence. Limited access to financial services can create dependency on the abusive partner, making it difficult for women to leave or seek help.

And this was why we launched the Herconomy Emerald Grant Initiative in March 2023  in partnership with the Lagos State Domestic Unit, this grant is being issued to female survivors of domestic violence as a way to get them back on their feet and to encourage other women to reach out and seek help,

We have awarded this grant to 2 women.
